Energise Cambridge, University Environment & Energy office and CUSU Ethical Affairs need your opinions about the updated environment policy.
Help us shape the University's environment in the next 25 years!
When: Wednesday 3rd December 7:00- 9:00pm
Location: TBC
Who: Representatives of students societies, groups and JCR/MCR teams (see list below), as well as interested students & staff members of the University.
Following our previous Policy Workshop in December 2013 and submission of Students' Vision of the New Policy document in March 2014, it's time to unite our voices once again to review and suggest amendments to the updated policy! Let's make sure the new environment policy is strong and ambitious enough to match Cambridge's world-leading status!
A detailed report of the updated policy can be found here:
http://www.environment.admin.cam.ac.uk/environmental-policy-review
The meeting will be focused on the Recommendations made in the document. To maximimise our productivity, it would be great if you could discuss with your society/group and consolidate 2-3 key points you want to make during the workshop.
In order to ensure variety and relevance of responses, we are expecting to receive opinions from the following parties:
1. Student environment societies
- Zero Carbon
- CUECS
- Nature Society
- GreenBRIDGE
- Cambridge Hub
- Cambridge Carbon Footprint
- Cambridge Young Greens
- Greenpeace Cambridge
2. JCR & MCR green officers
3. Students who are taking part (or have taken part) in the environment-related programmes, schemes and awards in Cambridge
For example (NB: this list is not exhaustive):
- Green Impact Scheme
- Living Lab projects
- Skills for Sustainability
- Cambridge Climate Forum
- etc
4. Sustainability-oriented societies
- Cambridge University Eco Racing
- FoodCycle
- Engineers Without Borders
Your contributions will be invaluable in deciding the future in terms of teaching, research and administrative functions across the whole University regarding environmental sustainability, which covers carbon reduction, renewable energy, biodiversity, procurement, water, waste mangement and so on.
The outcome of this workshop will be reported to the Vice Chancellor, Finance Director and many other University councils. They will demand a constructive report that can represent opinions of 17,000 students within Cambridge. Let's work together to take on the challenge!
Look forward to meeting you all in the workshop!
