The Energise Cambridge campaign
We are pressuring the University to reduce its carbon emissions. We do this by submitting reports and attending pivotal environmental and energy committee meetings within the University. We are the link between the University staff and students and ensure the University is committed to serious action against climate change.
We have student representatives on the Environmental Strategy Committee and the Energy and Carbon Reduction Project Working group. Here we have presented an initial report and a revised version, outlining our recommendations about developing and implementing a cost-effective, timely strategic plan for carbon reductions.
Past successes include two positive and supportive meetings with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, involvement in the decisions regarding energy efficiency projects, improvement of student engagement with the University's environmental management, especially through promoting the launch of the Cambridge Green Challenge and the Living Labs project.
We are also currently involved in the revision of the University's Environmental Policy. This is an ideal opportunity make significant long term changes to reduce our energy use and improve our sustainability practices. This will be taking place in 2013-14 and your comments on possible revisions and improvements are welcome.
